Three conditions every Tolland rebate needs
The right electric account
Energize CT serves Eversource and United Illuminating customers. Tolland is Eversource territory, so the question is only whose name is on the account.
A network installer
The installer has to be in the Energize CT Heat Pump Installer Network. Outside it, the rebate is zero. We are a member, and NATE and HBDP certified technicians do the work.
Qualifying equipment and paperwork
ENERGY STAR cold climate certified equipment, installed in the program year, with an invoice that lists model numbers and is marked paid in full.
How an Energize CT heat pump rebate works
Six steps, in order. Choose a step to see who handles it and what can go wrong. This follows the 2026 program rules published on energizect.com. Incentive amounts change, so we confirm current figures when we quote.
Confirm the account and the heat you are replacing
Energize CT heat pump incentives are for residential electric customers of Eversource and United Illuminating, and in Tolland that means Eversource. Next we look at what the heat pump replaces. The larger incentives are for replacing natural gas, oil, propane or electric resistance as the main heat. A heat pump that only adds cooling, or heats a space that had no heat, falls under a smaller basic offer.
Have a recent Eversource bill handy. The account holder is the person who applies.
Choose an installer in the Heat Pump Installer Network
Energize CT only pays on systems installed by contractors in its Heat Pump Installer Network. This is the rule that catches people: a system put in by anyone outside the network gets no rebate at all, however good the equipment is. Clean Climate HVAC is a network member and an Energize CT Approved Contractor.

Design the system and decide full or partial
We size the system from a room-by-room load and specify ENERGY STAR cold climate certified equipment. Then comes the decision that shapes the paperwork: full displacement, where the old system is removed or disconnected, or partial displacement, where it stays as backup.
If your old boiler or furnace stays, the job needs integrated controls. That part is not optional.
Install, with the controls set correctly
For full displacement, the invoice has to show the old system removed or disconnected and the fuel lines capped. For partial displacement, we install integrated controls from Energize CT's Qualified Products List and set them by droop or by switch-over temperature, so the heat pump runs first and the old system only covers the gap.
Controls that are missing, or not on the qualified list, can drop a project to a lower incentive tier.
Submit the application
The customer submits the rebate application, online or by mail. We supply the invoice it needs: equipment model numbers, our contractor details, the install date and the total marked paid in full. For 2026 installations, the program asks for applications postmarked no later than February 27, 2027.
Do not wait for the deadline. A missing document is easier to fix in week one than in February.
Inspection and payment
Energize CT picks some projects at random for a post-installation inspection. If yours is chosen, let them in, because refusing the inspection can forfeit the rebate. Once the application clears, the program issues the incentive.
If you had insulation done through an Energize CT home energy assessment in the 24 months before the install, tell us. The program offers a bonus for that.
Matching the heat pump to a Tolland house
The house decides the equipment, and the equipment decides which rebate path you are on. Not every Tolland call is a heat pump project; for a furnace or boiler that quits at night, see emergency HVAC repair.
Ducted heat pump
Where a furnace already feeds sound ducts, a cold-climate ducted heat pump uses them for heat and cooling. The ducts get checked for size and leaks first, since a heat pump moves more air at lower temperatures.
Ductless mini splits
Heads in the main rooms, lines run outside the walls, no ductwork to build. This is the common answer for houses heated by a boiler or by electric baseboard.
Dual fuel
A heat pump carries most of the season and your oil, propane or gas furnace takes the coldest nights, with integrated controls deciding the handoff.
